HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
On Oct. 14, the Marshall men's basketball team will begin the 2011-12 season with its annual Thundering Herd Madness event held at the Cam Henderson Center.
Fans will be introduced to second-year head coach Tom Herrion and his squad which finished last season with a 22-12 record and an appearance in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The gates will open at 8 p.m. and player introductions will kick off the event at 9 p.m.
The rest of the night will consist of a two-ball competition, slam dunk contest and a brief scrimmage.
"We are very excited to kick off the 2011-12 season with our annual Thundering Herd Madness," Herrion said. "This event gives our fan base its first opportunity to see our team. I think we share our fan's excitement for the start of the season."
Upon the completion of the approximately 75-minute event, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from the Marshall players and coaches. Souvenir roster cards will be distributed at the event that includes one side for autographs. There will also be several prize giveaways throughout the event.
Thundering Herd Madness serves as a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Marshall Tip-Off club (a division of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation). All tickets are $5 and seating is general admission throughout the entire arena. All Marshall students will be admitted free of charge by presenting a valid MU student ID at the student entrance located on the upper concourse level on the south side of the building.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 800-THE-HERD or by going online to www.HerdZone.com.
Marshall athletics will also be selling season tickets starting at 8 p.m. A select-a-seat process will be used for any remaining unsold season tickets.
