Jon Elmore Tabbed for Player of the Week Honors

Nov. 13, 2017

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A career-high 38 points with the addition of eight assists, two rebounds, two steals and just one turnover against Tennessee at Martin helped Marshall junior guard earn the season’s first player of the week honors from Conference USA and College Sports Madness, the organizations announced Monday.

“That’s a good way to end the first week,” head coach Dan D’Antoni said. “I try to tell people that kids from West Virginia can play basketball and no one proves that more than Jon. This won’t be the last time he wins this award this season.”

This is the second time Elmore has won the award in his career, as he won the award for the week of Dec. 12 last season. It is also the first time a Marshall player has earned player of the week honors in the opening week since Elijah Pittman did so in the 2013-14 season.

The junior’s 38 points came from 11-of-21 shooting, 3-of-11 three-pointers and going 13-of-14 from the charity stripe in the Herd’s 102-91 victory.

Marshal returns to action this evening when it welcomes the Southern Jaguars at 7 p.m.
