R-SOPHOMORE SEASON (2016): Played in 10 games and made nine starts … Recorded 69 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery … Fourth on the team in tackles … Led all sophomores in tackles … Set a career high with 11 tackles against Charlotte … Posted 10 tackles in a win against Florida Atlantic … Had at least seven tackles in seven different games … One sack vs. Louisville … Invited walk-on granted scholarship by Coach Doc Holliday in mid-January 2016, following Herd’s St. Petersburg Bowl victory … Named to the 2016-17 C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.0 or greater GPA).

R-FRESHMAN SEASON (2015): Impressed Herd coaches in 2015 spring practice after move from safety to Sam (strongside) linebacker with his physical presence… Was lone Herd walk-on in the two-deep to begin August camp in 2015 … Played all 13 games as a regular on special teams, and also played 83 defensive snaps in eight games … Posted 18 tackles (5 solos), with one pass breakup and one QB hurry (in St. Petersburg Bowl win) … Top game was versus Norfolk State, with four tackles … Had at least two stops in six of 13 games despite limited time … Named to 2015-16 Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or greater).

FRESHMAN SEASON (2014): Redshirted.

HERD FILE: Born Jan. 31, 1996 … Full name is Christian Isiah Hancock … A three-year starter at safety and running back for Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, was Class AAA All-State second team and All-Mountain State Athletic Conference first team as a senior … Also started for WWHS basketball State Tournament finalist in 2013 and was All-State honorable mention … Was three-year football starter for Flying Eagles, rushing for 1,001 career yards, with 47 receptions for another 591 yards. Also was 12-for-20 passing for 71 yards … As senior, set school single-game receiving record with 129 yards versus Winfield … On defense, had 240 career tackles (95 solo), with seven interceptions and seven passes defended … Scored 116 career points (18 TDs, 4 two-point conversions) … On special teams, was Beckley kickoff man as senior, averaging 35.2 yards per kickoff and had 19 career kick returns for 436 yards … Finished WWHS career with 2,098 all-purpose yards … From same high school that produced Herd stars Clint Van Horn, Doug Legursky, Mike Guilliams, Matt Morris and Bob Pruett, among others.
