R-JUNIOR SEASON (2015): Didn’t play on defense at safety, but was again a valuable performer for Herd on all special teams kickoff and punt units … Went on scholarship just prior to the season, in August camp … Played in first 11 games of season; missed regular-season finale at WKU and St. Petersburg Bowl due to injury … Made 14 special teams tackles for the season … Forced one fumble (versus Old Dominion).
R-SOPHOMORE SEASON (2014): Played first major college season as Herd walk-on after transferring from Division II University of Charleston ... A regular on special teams throughout the season, played in 13 games, missing game at UAB after suffering concussion in win over Rice ... Made nine tackles (four solos) ... As backup safety on defense, played in four games, getting 28 snaps (high of 10 at Akron) ... Performed on Scout Team.
TRANSFER YEAR (2013): Sat out in compliance with NCAA transfer rules after leaving the University of Charleston (W.Va.), where he signed in February 2012 and played the 2012 season.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2012 at UC): Played in all 11 games for 9-2 Golden Eagles, who ranked no. 25 in NCAA Division II. Primarily played on special teams ... Played in five games on defense, posting six tackles.
HERD FILE: Born Feb. 4, 1994 ... Majoring in Sports Management at MU ... Enrolled at Marshall in August 2013 as walk-on after attending University of Charleston for 2012-13 school year ... Coached at Cabell Midland High by former Herd offensive lineman Luke Salmons ...As Cabell Midland High senior, was Class AAA All-State first team choice as offense utility player, helping the Knights to the state playoff quarterfinals ... As high school senior, rushed 150 times for 1,213 yards and scored 20 touchdowns, and had five interceptions as a defensive back ... Was top preseason-ranked recruiting prospect in West Virginia by Rivals.com.
