Nothing `Cheesy' About Brooks' Transformation

Moved from end to defensive tackle for spring practice 2016.

R-JUNIOR SEASON (2015): Made first career start in opening win over Purdue, then played in relief in defensive line rotation in 11 other games (missing win over Southern Miss) … Played 311 defensive snaps on season, topped by 63 in Purdue win … Finished season with 23 tackles, including one for loss, with six QB hurries … Had season-high six tackles in win over Purdue … Three of his four solo tackles for season came in triple-OT loss at Middle Tennessee.

R-SOPHOMORE SEASON (2014): Played in all 14 games as backup to senior Ra’Shawde Myers at defensive end … Emerged in spring practice as contributor, thanks in part to his strength gain to go with his long wingspan … Had 32 tackles for the season (nine solos) to go with three tackles for loss, two sacks (Rhode Island, Akron), a pass breakup and a forced fumble (Rhode Island) … Played 383 defensive snaps in 10-man rotation on Herd front four … Had season-high five tackles in win over Florida Atlantic (Oct. 25) … Posted four tackles (three solos) in Herd’s Boca Raton Bowl triumph over Northern Illinois.

R-FRESHMAN SEASON (2013): Played in three of 14 games (Gardner-Webb, UAB, East Carolina) … Had two tackles (one solo), both against Gardner-Webb … Scout Team lineman.

FRESHMAN SEASON (2012): Redshirted.

HERD FILE: Born Dec. 27, 1992 … Earned undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice in May 2015; taking second major in Adult and Technical Education … Enrolled at Marshall in January 2012 as grayshirt … Was 6-5 but only 217 pounds when he reported to the Herd … Starred for same high school – T.C. Williams – that is known for the movie, “Remember the Titans” … Also offered by East Carolina and Duke … Also had interest from Louisville, N.C. State, Pitt and Old Dominion … As a senior, had season cut short due to injury, causing several interested ACC suitors to back away … Made 20 tackles with four sacks … Rivals two-star prospect … Also was basketball starter for T.C. Williams … In semester he grayshirted after graduating in 2011, he coached T.C. Williams’ freshman team’s offensive and defensive line as part-timer.
