JUNIOR Season (2007)
Saw action in all 12 games, starting in seven...caught 25 passes for 442 yards and two touchdowns...led all Marshall receivers in average yards per catch with 17.7...also served as Marshall's top kick and punt returner...recorded 31 kick returns for 603 yards (19.5 yards per return average) and nine punt returns for 92 yards (10.2 yard per return average)...caught three passes for a season-high 75 yards and a touchdown at Houston...had a season-long 42 yard kick return at Cincinnati.
R-SOPHOMORE SEASON (2006)
Made his triumphant return to the Herd after sitting out the 2005 season with a knee injury...Started all 12 games, finishing second on the team in receptions (38), yards (383) and touchdowns (3)...Was a
third team All-Conference USA media and coaches selection as a punt returner...Finished the season with 12 returns for 144 yards...Caught two passes for 13 yards in his season debut at WVU...Snagged a career-high 10 catches for 97 yards and his first career touchdown against Hosftra...Added a touchdown against Memphis and Tulane, as he caught four passes for 77 yards versus the Green Wave.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2005)
Sat out the season with a knee injury.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2004)
Saw action in all 12 games and earned starts in eight as a true freshman...Had 27 catches for 233 yards...Had 13 kick returns for 188 yards and 17 punt returns for 191 yards.
Played quarterback, receiver, and served as a kick returner at Westlake...As a senior caught 55 passes for 1,342 yards and scored 23 touchdowns...First-team all-state selection...In his prep career amassed more than 3,700 receiving yards and scored 43 touchdowns...Also played basketball.
Full name is Emmanuel George Spann...son of Julia Thornton and Oscar Spann...has one brother, Octavius Spann who played basketball for Georgetown in 2006-07 and is now playing for Marshall...majoring in business and minor in communications...lists his mother as his role model...at the age of 10 he was hit by a car and doctors thought he would never be able to play sports again...lists Randy Moss as his favorite pro athlete...majoring in marketing.
