Feb. 9, 2006
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University and Conference USA have announced the Thundering Herd's 2006 football schedule.
"This is a very challenging schedule from top to bottom," Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum said. "We have a strong non-conference schedule that features three perennial powers in West Virginia, Kansas State and Tennessee, and a conference schedule that features four bowl teams from a year ago."
Marshall will host five games in 2006, including a nationally televised contest on ESPN2 with defending C-USA East Division Champion UCF on Wednesday, Oct. 4th. The Thundering Herd's home opener with Hofstra is set for Saturday, Sept. 9th and Marshall will host Memphis on Sat., Oct. 28; Tulane on Sat., Nov. 4; and UTEP on Sat., Nov. 18.
The Thundering Herd will travel to Big East Champion West Virginia on Sept. 2, to Big 12 member Kansas State on Sept. 16, to SEC member Tennessee on Sept. 23; to SMU on Oct. 14; to UAB on Oct. 21; to East Carolina on Nov. 11; and close out the regular season at Southern Miss on Nov. 25.
"This will definitely be a challenge for our young team and we are going to have to rise to the occasion," Marshall Head Coach Mark Snyder said. "Seven road games and five bowl teams from a year ago make for a tough road. With that said, I believe in our young men and I know we have a chance to be a good football team. I know we are going to go out and give it our best every time we take the field."
Additional games are expected to be televised with an announcement coming at a later date.
Marshall is scheduled to begin spring practice on March 28 and the annual Green-White game is set for Saturday, April 22.
