HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall University head football coach Bob Pruett announced today that Shaine Miles has joined the Thundering Herd coaching staff.

Pruett has named the former Naval Academy assistant and Marshall graduate assistant coach to fill the spot vacated when Bill Legg left for Purdue. Miles, a Salem, Va., native, spent last season as an assistant defensive line coach for the Midshipmen.

?We think that Shaine did an outstanding job for us for for two years,? Pruett said. ?We feel very fortunate to have him back.?

Prior to his stint at the Naval Academy, Miles served as a graduate assistant coach at Marshall for two seasons. Miles assisted the Marshall defensive coaching staff with all aspects of game planning and practice, including breaking down and grading film.

Miles began his coaching career at Bainbridge High School in Bainbridge, Ga., where he was the offensive line coach and special teams coordinator from 1997-99.

A 1996 graduate of Virginia Tech, Miles received his B.A. in history. He was a four-year letterwinner as a tight end at Virginia Tech (1992-96) and helped lead the Hokies to four bowl games (Independence, Gator, Sugar, and Orange). Miles also received his M.S. in Education Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech in 1997.

Miles was an all-state linebacker and Defensive Player of the Year at Salem High School in 1992. He is married to the former Vanessa Rorer of Salem, Va.
