HUNTINGTON - Jim Tressel, head football coach at Ohio State, will be the featured speaker at the 28th annual Big Green Scholarship Foundation Dinner presented by Pepsi. The site of the 7 p.m. event on April 25 will be the Cam Henderson Center.

"Jim Tressel's stature on the national level is equal to any speaker we've ever had for the Big Green banquet," said Bob Marcum, MU's director of athletics. "The fact that his coaching history is so intertwined with the Thundering Herd makes his appearance here that much more special."

Tresssel, in five seasons at OSU, has an overall record of 50-13, a National Championship, two Big Ten co-championships, a 19-game winning streak, National Coach of the Year honors, five bowl appearances, three victories in as many BCS bowl games and three top-five finishes in the national polls.

Prior to his successful Buckeyes stint, he spent 15 seasons at Youngstown State, winning four Division I-AA nationals championships and qualifying for the Division 1-AA playoffs a remarkable 10 times.

Tressel's Youngstown Penguins defeated Marshall twice in championship games, 25-17 in 1991 and 17-5 in 1993. However the Herd defeated Tressel and Youngstown, 31-28, in 1992 for the first of its two national titles.

Marshall Head Football Coach Mark Snyder also is no stranger to Tressel. Snyder was on Tressel's Youngstown staff from 1991-96 and on the Ohio State staff from 2001-2004, the last as defensive coordinator.

"I'm extremely honored and humbled," said Snyder, "to have my mentor who graciously raised me through my coaching profession to speak at my alma mater. He's been a coach, a father image and a friend to me. I know he is excited as he has friends here and has great admiration for the Tri-State area, Huntington and Marshall University."

Corporate tables that seat eight persons for the Big Green Banquet are available for $2,000 and include a special gifts and a private reception with coach Tressel, while individual tickets are $75 per person. All proceeds from the banquet go to support athletic scholarships at Marshall University.

"The Annual Scholarship Banquet is a significant fund raising event for the Big Green," said executive director Tom Miller. "Our history of securing well-recognized speakers has always enabled us to attract a large number of Marshall supporters. In addition, there are a large number of Ohio State alumni and fans in our area that will be very interested in attending the banquet."
