HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Saturday's 4 p.m. Green & White Spring Game at Joan C. Edwards Stadium promises to be one of the most eventful spring football games on record. Fans will be treated to not only Marshall's final spring scrimmage of the year, but have a chance to see members of the undefeated 1996 Thundering Herd National Championship Team, win prizes that range from NFL tickets to a spot as an extra in the "We Are Marshall" movie, and have an opportunity to be in a halftime crowd scene for the upcoming motion picture.
"This is going to be a lot of fun," Marshall University head football coach Mark Snyder said. "This is an exciting time for Marshall and Huntington. There are going to be great giveaways, the chance to be in the movie, and to come out and honor a truly special group of guys. What the 1996 team did, going 15-0 is a remarkable accomplishment and to have them here is truly special."
Tickets to the game are $5 and can be purchased at the gate or through the Marshall University ticket office at 1-800-THE-HERD. Marshall University students will be admitted free with a valid student ID. Parking is also available on the stadium's West Lot for $10. All ticket and parking proceeds go to the Marshall University Quarterback Club.
Fans are encouraged to take part in the spring game version of the "Thunder Walk" at 2 p.m. in the stadium's West Lot. The 1996 team and this year's Thundering Herd will be participating in the now regular pre-game ritual.
