A crowd of 6,010 fans watched as Marshall University closed out spring drills with the annual Green & White game at Joan C. Edwards Stadium, Saturday.
The officiated scrimmage featured the offense going against the defense with no clock or scoring system in place. Marshall ran roughly 90 of a planned 120 plays prior to severe weather in the area ended the scrimmage.
Sophomore quarterback Eddie Sullivan completed 10-of-20 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown, while redshirt-sophomore quarterback A.J. Graham completed 9-of-19 passes for 56 yards. Graham scored on a 10-yard rush and finished the scrimmage with 20 yards on the ground. Sullivan also posted seven carries for 11 yards. Both quarterbacks wore red jerseys and were non-contact throughout the scrimmage.
Sullivan connected with tight end C.J. Crawford on a seven-yard touchdown pass for the first score of the afternoon. Sullivan also connected on a 50-yard pass to Crawford later in the scrimmage for the longest play of the day.
Crawford led all receivers with five catches for 77 yards and the TD. Redshirt-freshman receiver Jazz King caught five passes for 59 yards, while freshman Conelius Jones grabbed four passes for 17 yards.
Junior running back Martin Ward led all rushers with 72 yards on 11 carries, including a 39-yard touchdown scamper. Sophomore running back Essray Taliaferro recorded 58 yards on 13 carries.
Defensively, Marshall senior linebacker Tyson Gale and junior safety Donald Brown led the way with seven tackles each. Freshman defensive end Darien Moody was also credited with two sacks and recorded a safety in the controlled scrimmage, while Brandon Sparrow and Trevor Black were each credited with sacks.
Multiple Marshall regulars were held out of the scrimmage, including senior defensive end Vinny Curry, senior safety Donald Brown, and sophomore running back Tron Martinez, to name a few.
