Spring Game Format Announced
Department announces plans for Saturday
April 24, 2013
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Marshall Athletics has announced the format for Saturday’s annual Green and White Game, which is set for 2 p.m. at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
As has been the case throughout spring practice, the offense will wear green and the defense will wear white. The first two quarters will be starters versus starters with the game clock running normally. The scoring system for the game will be based on several offensive and defensive categories.
Offensive points will be awarded by first downs, plays over 20 yards and touchdowns. Defensive points will be awarded by forced turnovers, forced punts, sacks, tackles for loss and defensive scores. Similar to the team’s previous spring scrimmages, after the first half is complete, there will be another untimed series of plays that will be situational. There will be no live special teams plays during Saturday’s competition.
“We have decided that sticking with the offense vs. defense theme for the spring game gives us the best chance to improve as a team,” Marshall Coach Doc Holliday said. “There are a lot of guys flying around out here and I like what I have seen thus far. I want to continue that theme and finish the spring strong. Our fans will get to see our team compete in all situations. If you have been to one of the scrimmages this spring, you know that these guys are competing at a high level and having fun.”
“We have a good amount of youth out here and the more reps they get the better. It’s always a good day when our great fan base can get out and see some of our returning faces along with our new ones. I know our young guys will be thrilled to slap their signatures on some T-shirts and posters for our fans after the game. The focus of spring ball is for us to get much better as a football team, and we’re doing that.”
The West, Annex and Softball parking lots open at 9 a.m. Saturday. Parking is $20 per spot on the day of the game. The stadium’s Gate A ticket office will open at 10 a.m. for the Choose Your Seat program. Tickets are $10 for adult and $5 for children 17 and under. Not all seats will be available for sale until after the renewal deadline on May 10th. Customer service representatives will be available to answer all questions regarding season tickets. Open seats will NOT be marked.
Gates will open for all Green and White game fans at 12:30 p.m. Seating will be on the west side only and all fans, including MU students, must enter through Gates A, B and C. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Students who do not have a ticket prior to the game must be prepared to present a valid MU ID at the gates.
The annual springtime “turning on” of the Memorial Fountain ceremony will take place at 11 a.m.
Former Thundering Herd players and current Super Bowl champs Omar Brown and Albert McClellan of the Baltimore Ravens are scheduled to appear along with the Colts’ Mario Harvey and the Eagles’ Vinny Curry.
Kroger, the Green and White Game sponsor, also will conduct special promotions during the game.
