HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Athlon Sports released its three preseason All-Conference USA teams for the 2014 football season on Friday and Marshall was represented by 15 of its student-athletes, the most of anyone in the league by seven (Rice, UTSA 8).

Heisman candidate quarterback Rakeem Cato, wide receiver Tommy Shuler, offensive lineman Chris Jasperse, defensive lineman James Rouse, linebacker Jermaine Holmes and punt returner Deandre Reaves dotted the first team, while defensive lineman Ra’Shawde Myers, linebacker Evan McKelvey, punter Tyler Williams and Reaves (at kick returner) made the second team.

Offensive linemen Sebastian Johansson and Clint Van Horn were selected to the third team to go with linebacker Stefan Houston and defensive backs Darryl Roberts and A.J. Leggett.

Last week, Athlon gave Marshall a preseason national ranking of 40 and projected the Herd to register a 13-0 mark prior to the bowl season after defeating North Texas in the C-USA championship game. The Herd has been projected as high as 19 (Phil Steele) in the preseason prognostications.
