HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-The Marshall football program has added cornerback Derrick Thomas, a transfer from Penn State, the school announced Thursday.

"We're excited about him, he's a great young guy and we're happy that he's a part of our program," said Thundering Herd head coach Doc Holliday. "He had an interest in playing for us, so we went through the proper procedures so that he can be here. We're glad he is."

Thomas, a 6-foot, 181-pound junior who will be eligible this season, played in nine games for the Nittany Lions last season and made four tackles. As a freshman, he played in four games and posted three tackles with an interception and two pass breakups. He redshirted as a true freshman at Penn State in 2009.

The Thundering Herd, who has completed its first four days of fall camp, will begin its 2012 season at West Virginia on Saturday, September 1st.
