Note: This is the latest in a series of blog-style practice reports that will be posted exclusively on Herdzone.com throughout August camp.

The Thundering Herd football team continued preparations for the 2008 season today with its ninth practice session of camp at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

The team worked out in full pads once again and the sidelines were graced by another NFL scout. Several scouts have made there way to practices in the last few days. On Monday, the team experienced their first actual two-a-day by practicing in the morning and evening. The Herd went with full pads in the morning session and shells in the afternoon practice.

By all accounts, the Thundering Herd is well ahead at this point in camp as opposed to recent years. Head Coach Mark Snyder has a significant number of returning starters and players with experience for the first time in his tenure and it shows with the pace of practice. Snyder has commented repeatedly about how pleased he is with the amount of work and effort he is seeing on a daily basis from his squad.

Another advantage to having such a strong group of returnees is the leadership it provides to the newcomers. In interviews throughout camp, young players have spoken about upper classmen who have motivated them and continue to push and mentor them. Just a few days ago several young defensive linemen talked about the "inspiration" they get from watching Albert McClellan go so hard and fast in practice. Not only does he appear to be 100%, but the 2006 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year is bigger and looks poised for a big year.

Notes:
