Sept. 22, 2009
IRVING, Texas - Conference USA announced Monday that Thundering Herd senior defensive end Albert McClellan is this week's C-USA Defensive Player of the Week.
McClellan turned in a stellar performance in Marshall's 17-10 win over Bowling Green. He was credited with 15 total tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry and forced one fumble. McClellan led a Marshall defense that limited Bowling Green to only 10 yards rushing. He also recorded a blocked field goal in special teams action.
Immediately following Darius Marshall's 80-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, McClellan set up another Marshall scoring drive when he sacked Bowling Green QB Tyler Sheehan for a loss of seven yards and forced a fumble that Marshall recovered at the BGSU 17-yard line. MU kicked a field goal four plays later to go up 17-7.
McClellan was in on two other sacks to bring his career total to 20 (now ranks sixth all-time in career sacks at Marshall).
