Shuler Added to Biletnikoff Award Watch List
Herd wide receiver leads nation in catches
Oct. 2, 2012
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall wide receiver Tommy Shuler, the nation’s leader with 51 receptions, was one of 11 student-athletes added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Tuesday morning by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation.
Shuler, a sophomore, joins teammate Aaron Dobson on the list. Dobson was part of the list’s preseason announcement on July 17.
Shuler, the reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, snared 19 passes for 200 yards in Saturday’s 51-41 loss at Purdue. The reception total, a Marshall single-game record, is the nation's highest single-game mark since the Dec. 5, 2009 C-USA Championship Game, when Houston’s James Cleveland caught 19 against East Carolina. The 200 yards are the most by a Herd receiver since Davis racked up 264 against Appalachian State on Aug. 31, 2002. For the season, the Miami native also has 534 receiving yards, the country’s ninth-highest total.
Marshall (2-3 overall, 1-0 C-USA) will be back in action Saturday when Tulsa (4-1, 2-0) visits Joan C. Edwards Stadium for a 3:30 p.m. Homecoming kickoff.
