Gale had seven tackles, a tackle for a loss and an interception in the Louisville win.
Oct. 4, 2011
Gale was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week by two outlets, one by a vote of the league's media and the other by College Sports Madness (CollegeSportsMadness.com) after the program's first non-conference road win and first victory over a BCS school since 2003. Whitehead was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Gale, a captain, had a team-high seven tackles on the day, including a tackle for loss, and the biggest play of the game when he stepped in front of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's pass to pick it off at the UL 30-yard line with 4:32 left. That turnover put the Herd offense in business deep in Cardinal territory and allowed it to cash in nearly three minutes later for the game-winning score. Gale led a defense that allowed just 60 yards rushing on 29 attempts (2.1 per carry) Saturday, including (-9) yards total offense in the first quarter. For the season, he is second on the team with 39 tackles.
