Herd Football Game Day Full of Activities
Fans coming to Marshall Stadium for Saturday's game between the Thundering Herd and Buffalo will have plenty of pregame activities to enjoy.
Kickoff of the game between the Herd (3-1) and Bulls (1-5) is set for 4:30 p.m. The gave will be televised only on ESPN Game Plan. Contact your local cable or satellite provider for availability.
In addition to seeing the top quarterback in college football in Marshall's Byron Leftwich, fans will have a chance to take home their own smaller version of the Herd quarterback. A limited number of the Byron Leftwich Bobblehead dolls will be available for sale in the stadium concourse for $20. All proceeds from the sale of the bobbleheads goes to the Big Green Scholarship Foundation to help pay for athletic scholarships.
Fans can also look forward to a long list of sights and sounds on game day around the stadium. Following is a list of the activities planned.
For NASCAR Day the cars of eight drivers will be on display on the football practice field on the East side of the stadium. The cars of Bill Elliott, Kyle Petty, Jimmie Johnson, Steve Park, Ricky Hendrick and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., will be joined by the #24 car of defending Winston Cup Champion Jeff Gordon.
Sprint PCS, in conjunction with NASCAR Day, will have a NASCAR simulator for fans to enjoy. The simulator will also be set up on the football practice field.
Benjy's Harley-Davidson of Huntington, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), will have 100 Harley's on display on the football practice field as well, as a part of the celebration of 100 years of Harley-Davidson. At halftime of the game, all 100 Harley's will take a parade lap inside Marshall Stadium, led by Olympic Gold Medalist Rulon Gardner. Participants in the Harley ride will take part in a tailgate prior to the game.
On the West side of the Stadium, prior to the game, displays will be set up for MBNA, Kings Daughters, the GMAC Bowl and NTELLOS. The GMAC display will include a remote controlled race track for fans to test their own racing skills. At halftime of the game GMAC will sponsor a contest among selected students for a chance to win tickets to the 2002 game in Mobile, Ala.
Fans looking for something completely different prior to the game should visit the WDGG-FM tailgate area in the West Lot at 3 p.m. to witness the first wedding ever held at Marshall Stadium.
Tammie Davis and Zane Whitt, two die-hard Herd fans, will be married during the Pregame Tailgate Show. Marco and the Marshall cheerleaders will walk Tammie down the aisle, Skip Grubb will officiate and hosts Robert Harper, Greg Cyrus, Greg Perry and Woody Woodrum, plus Rocky and Rod, will don green and white tuxes especially for the event.
