The Mid-American Conference announced today that Marshall senior quarterback Byron Leftwich was named the MAC East Division co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Leftwich, who completed 28-of-35 passes for 447 yards and four touchdowns in just one half of action against Buffalo, shared the weekly conference honor with Miami quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Leftwich is the fourth Marshall player to be recognized by the league this year, joining running backs Brandon Carey and Franklin Wallace and kicker Curtis Head.

Roethlisberger set a MAC record with 41 completions in a 48-41 loss to Northern Illinois. His 525 yards passing was the second highest total in league history and the most ever in a conference game.

Others honored by the MAC for their performances on October 12 were Central Florida defensive back Asante Samuel, Ohio punt returner Staffor Owens, Western Michigan tailback Michael Turner, Toledo linebacker Tom Ward and Bowling Green's B.J. Lane.
