Quotes from Mark Snyder's Weekly Press Conference

Oct. 17, 2006

Opening statement...
We are getting ready to head down to Alabama and face a very deep football team. Coach Brown felt like he was going to have some depth in the preseason and as it turns out he was right. They play a lot of people on offense and defense and they seem to be senior loaded. They play three tailbacks, two quarterbacks and it seems like they are deep at wideout, pretty deep on the offensive line and they have their kicker back on special teams. They are pretty deep on the defensive side as well.

On UAB's offense...
They have some three back sets to give you something to think about, but they do a little bit of everything offensively to be honest with you. The do some wishbone, I-back, spread, etc. They really run the gamut offensively and because they have experience they can do that.

On UAB as a team...
They look more like a team to me this year than they did last year. I know it was the Darrell Hackney show last year, but this year it seems to be a bunch of guys all banding together. Sometimes that is what great teams are made out of and Coach Brown has his team playing well right now. They are talented. They have speed and again they have depth and a bunch of older guys and that is the reason they are winning some games.

On UAB and Marshall's tough non-conference schedules...
No question about it. They have played Oklahoma and Georgia and they played Oklahoma extremely well. They have had a tough non-conference schedule also.

On UAB's quarterbacks...
He (Williams) has done a good job. He is more of a passer, but he still runs the ball. They both can run the offense well and I think the key is that they have those three running backs and their offensive line is playing very well right now.

On the mood of his team...
There were a lot of folks around the office yesterday. Sunday night I did most of the talking at practice, but on Monday on their day off there were a lot of guys floating around the office on their own time and that's usually a pretty good sign.

When asked about everyone having a loss in the C-USA East race...
Right now we are just concentrating on this one and making sure we are doing the things that we are supposed to be doing. If we do that, like you said, it is open and it gives us something to play for.

On what a win on Saturday would do...
It would make me feel a lot better. And for the guys...they have worked hard at practice and they have given us what they have and it sure would be nice for them to get rewarded. It has been hard for all of us, but it would be nice to reap some rewards. It would go a long way.

You know the beautiful thing is I have not gotten one negative email. Everything has been very positive from the fans and, again, I have said this before we have knowledgeable fans and some of their messages have been really good, uplifting and right on the nose.

You find out what kind of leader you are in adversity and we are in adverse times right now. But, I go back to how I was raised and we have our football bible, if you will, our winner's manual and I refer to it for guidance and thoughts and try to share that with our team. Its easy for all of us when things are going well....anybody can do it when things are going well, but when things are not going so well you find out what kind of mettle you have.

On making plays in key situations...
This game will come down to an offensive play, a defensive play or a special teams play and we have to make a play. Right now everybody else is making plays and we are not. At some point in time we have to step up and make a play.
