Nov. 13, 2017

IRVING, Texas – Marshall redshirt freshman defensive back Nazeeh Johnson was named the College Sports Madness Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

Johnson recorded seven tackles (three solo) and a 45-yard interception return for touchdown in the Thundering Herd’s 30-23 win over WKU Saturday evening in Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The score was Marshall’s fourth defensive touchdown of the season and the first interception of his career. It was also the first “Pick-6” by a Marshall freshman since Gary Thompson returned one five yards against East Carolina in 2013.

This is the second honor the program has received from the outlet in 2017. Ryan Bee garnered the defensive award in Week 3 after posting 10 tackles and two sacks in a 21-0 win over Kent State on September 16.

Marshall (7-3 overall, 4-2 C-USA) will be back in action Saturday at UTSA in a 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT contest. The game will be carried locally in Texas and on Stadium’s Facebook page.
