Quotes from Mark Snyder's Weekly Press Conference

Nov. 21, 2006

On Southern Miss...
They (USM) are a very, very good football team that is very well coach and playing extremely well. They are very physical up front on both sides of the ball and that is going to be a challenge for us to match their intensity upfront. We have to match them. If we turn the ball over, we are going to have to go force a turnover. It should be a good football game.

On the USA O-line...
They can run. They all have size and speed. Bautiste goes above and beyone and Cooley is really good up front too. You can see them dominate people. Both their O-line and D-line are playing very well.

On Marshall's win over UTEP ang going to Southern Miss...
I hope it carries over (playing well in all three phases), because it is going to take that to win. We have to have good road focus and there is no question that we are going to have to play a complete game. It felt good, but I am still not all the way there.

On winning four of the last five...
I think we grew up a little bit. We are getting back to the Marshall ways of old. We are still not there yet. We are still a long way from where we want to be, but it is a heck of an improvement from where we were.

On Sophomore DE Albert McClellan...
Albert McClellan from point A to point B might be as fast as anyone I have ever seen. It is fun to set there with the clicker on tape and rewind and watch him play. When he gets off a block, he goes from point A to B, albiet not far, but his top rate speed is after one and a half steps and that is phenomenal. He is really, really explosive in that manner. I get to see the guy I think is the best defensive player in the conference every day in practice. I would put him up with the top guys in the country this year.

On the running game against UTEP...
I think it was a combination of the offensive line blocking very well at times and Ahmad making them look good at others. We made our offensive player of the week the entire running game. The wideouts did a good job of blocking, the o-line, it was an entire team effort on Saturday.

On USM freshman RB Damion Fletcher...
He is a good back. You watch him on film and he has real good vision and a good feel for the game. He is a real good player. He's the kind of guy that has some rubber-band in him and he makes people miss.

On USM's two quarterbacks...
There is not a whole lot of difference in them. They both run the offense. They just play two quarterbacks and after going through the injuries that we have had, I think coach Bower is pretty smart in doing that. If one gets hurt you have another that can come in and has experience. I have a lot of respect for coach Bower and he has got something he sees or knows and they both are producing.

On Jeff Bower...
No question, two guys I have always admired from afar are Jeff Bower and Frank Beamer. That the great thing about ESPN Thursday night football...it gives coaches from other conferences a chance to see teams play and when I watch Southern Miss they are always well coached and beating people that had more resources than them. You look at what Frank did at Virginia Tech bringing them from nowhere and Jeff has done a great job at Southern Miss as well. You know I heard him say something yesterday about consistency and you guys heard me talk about that after the game on Saturday. Thats the mark of a champion. Thats what we have had here. Bob (Pruett) was consistent here, Jim (Donnan) was consistent here. We have done it here and Jeff does that at Southern Miss. My objective is to get us back to being consistent year in and year out.

On Freshman DB Ashton Hall...
I thought he did a good job for his first time out. He still has a ways to go, but I thought he did well. We threw him to the wolves, but he rose to the occassion.

On Freshman WR Courtney Edmonson...
He has been doing well. I don't know about you guys, but I thought he did a pretty good job out there and looked good back there (returns). We had planned on redshirting him, but due to injuries and he ended up getting in the mix.

On playing at M.M. Roberts Stadium...
I have never been to Hattiesburg, but I hear that it is a tough place to play. Coach Kueck has told us about it and we are looking forward to the challenge. They have good fans and we are going to have to execute in all three phases to be successful.
