HUNTINGTON, W.Va.-Marshall senior cornerback Rashad Jackson claimed College Sports Madness' Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday after Saturday's sterling performance on Senior Day in Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
The Herd defeated East Carolina 34-27 in overtime to get to 6-6 overall and 5-3 in Conference USA. The six wins qualified Marshall for a bowl game and the five league wins is the most for the program since entering Conference USA in 2005.
Jackson, one of the Herd's 15 seniors, had a pair of interceptions, four tackles and another pass breakup that came on a pass he also nearly intercepted. His first pick led directly to a Herd touchdown near the end of the first half, while the second came on ECU's first possession of the second half and led to three more Marshall points. Jackson and the Herd defense helped limit the Pirates to just 4.7 yards per play and forced four turnovers on the day.
On the season, Jackson is tied for second in the league with four interceptions and is fourth in passes defended with 13. He has also posted 41 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and a 12-yard fumble return for touchdown in the Herd's game at UCF on Oct. 8.
