Marshall Has 21 Named to All-Conference and All-Freshman Teams

IRVING, Texas-The Marshall football team led the pack Tuesday when Conference USA named nine Herd student-athletes to its first and second all-league teams, seven earned honorable mention honors and five more were selected to the league’s All-Freshman team. The 21 total honorees is a school record.

Marshall center Chris Japerse, wide receiver Tommy Shuler, tight end Gator Hoskins and defensive lineman James Rouse were named to the first team, while quarterback Rakeem Cato, offensive linemen Garrett Scott and Clint Van Horn, linebacker Jermaine Holmes and punt returner Devon Smith made the second team. Running back Essray Taliaferro, defensive linemen Alex Bazzie and Ra’Shawde Myers, linebacker Evan McKelvey, defensive backs Darryl Roberts, Monterius Lovett and Corey Tindal were all named honorable mention all-conference.



Offensive lineman Michael Selby, defensive lineman Gary Thompson, linebacker Stefan Houston and defensive backs A.J. Leggett and Tindal were named to the All-Freshman team. Conference USA will announce its individual awards on Wednesday, which includes Most Valuable Player, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Coach of the Year.
