Dec. 14, 2013
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- College Sports Madness had released its postseason football awards and has named Marshall senior tight end Gator Hoskins an All-America third team selection, and selected junior quarterback Rakeem Cato its Offensive Player of the Year for Conference USA.
Hoskins and Cato were joined on the outlet’s C-USA first team by wide receiver Tommy Shuler. Center Chris Jasperse, defensive lineman James Rouse and punt returner Devon Smith were selected to the second team, while running back Essray Taliaferro, kick returner Deandre Reaves and linebacker Jermaine Holmes made the third team.
Cato previously had been named Offensive Player of the Year by Conference USA’s head coaches, despite being named to their all-conference second team. Jasperse, Hoskins, Shuler and Rouse were first team selections.
Smith also was a second-team pick by the coaches, as was Holmes, and Taliaferro earned an honorable mention nod.
Hoskins has 13 touchdown catches this season, six more than any other tight end nationally. Cato’s 36 touchdown passes are tied for third nationally and tops in the league.
Marshall (9-4) heads to the Dec. 27 Military Bowl in Annapolis, Md., against Maryland (7-5).
