Herd Closes-Out Spring Opener|
Feb. 21, 2012
HILTON HEAD, S.C.- The Marshall University men’s golf team failed to overtake any opponents in Tuesday’s final round of action at the Wexford Plantation Golf Club, instead falling to last place with a third round score of 315.
Entering the last 18 holes, Marshall sat tied with DePaul in 15th while maintaining a nine-stroke lead over last-place Elon. Yet after Elon posted a third round 302 and DePaul a near-similar 304, the Thundering Herd fell behind the pack and finished in last with a three-round total of 947.
Senior Bosten Miller boasted the lowest overall score for the Herd, but even so his 235 (+19) was only good enough to earn a share of 52nd place. Junior Nathan Kerns and sophomore Brian Anania weren’t far behind in 62nd with scores of 237 (+21), but freshmen Tas Sipowski and Jake Miller shot 239 and 246, respectively, to finish in 67th and 84th place.
The Herd will now regroup and refocus its efforts on improving for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, which is set to take place in Pinehurst, N.C. from March 10-11.
