DAVIDSON, N.C.-Marshall golfer Nathan Kerns fired a 1-under 71 to lead the Herd to a second-place effort after Day 1 of the Davidson College Invitational.

The Herd's round of 298 (+10) is just one shot behind the host Wildcats and two shots ahead of Gardner-Webb.

Also sitting in the top 10 for Marshall is Jeremy Rodgers, who is tied for seventh after his 2-over round of 74. Logan Lagodich is tied for 19th after a 4-over round of 76, while Brian Anania (T26th, +5, 77) and Jake Miller (T52nd, +13, 85).

The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
