Weiss Wraps up Round One of NCAA Raleigh Regional
Weiss is in a tie for 64th place with a 5-over 76
RALEIGH, N.C. – After 18 holes, Marshall Thundering Herd senior golfer Alex Weiss is in a tie for 64th place at the NCAA Raleigh Regional after he shot a 5-over 76 on Monday afternoon at the Lonnie Pool Golf Course.
“It was a tough day for Alex,” head coach Matt Grobe said. “His strength for his career has always been putting, but he struggled on the greens today. He really well from tee to green and his wedge play looked good, but the putts just wouldn’t fall. He hit some great putts and they just missed all day long. I’m looking forward to a really low round out of him tomorrow.”
Weiss’ round was highlighted by a birdie on the 17th hole, while he finished two of the final three holes with a par.
Individually, Texas Doug Ghim and Iona’s Justin Burkhamer lead the field with a 7-under 64. Overall, the Longhorns lead Georgia Tech with a 13-under 271.
Weiss will return to action tomorrow morning.
