HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men’s golf team is one shot back off the lead after the first two rounds Monday at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. Senior Alex Weiss leads the field with an 11-under 131. The 15-team field competed through 36 holes at the Guyan Golf & Country Club.
The Thundering Herd took advantage of a cool day on the links staying among the leaders throughout most of the day. Marshall shot an even par, 284 in the first round and finished 5-under with a team score of 279 in round two.
Redshirt junior Thomas Frazier bounced back after shooting a 9-over 80 in round one, with a 4-under 67 in round two. Redshirt sophomore Ben Roeder made a 2-stroke improvement from round one to round two. Weiss stayed at the front of the pack with 12 total birdies and just one bogey for the day.
Round three begins Tuesday morning at 8:30 with a shotgun start.
Head Coach Matt Grobe
“So good to see Alex (Weiss) play well today and lead the team. He had such a great summer followed by a really good start to the fall. Really excited about Thomas Frazier’s bounce back in the afternoon round. Excited to see Brad Plaziak start his college career with a 2-under par round. Cameron Root played really consistent today and I like where his game is. Ben Roeder played really solid but just had a couple holes sneak up and grab him. It was great to see Camden Moore put together two good rounds as an individual. Looking forward to watching the guys play in the final group tomorrow and compete for the championship.”
