Simpsonville, Ky. – The men’s golf team clawed its way back from tied for ninth after day one to finish tied for sixth concluding the two day Cardinal Intercollegiate Invitational held in Simpsonville, Kentucky. Marshall shot a final round of 296 strokes to give The Herd a two-day total of 591 on the par-72, 6,956-yard Cardinal Club. The tournament was scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament, however, due to heavy rains and wind the course only allowed one round Monday, rather than two.
Bosten Miller (Charleston, W.Va./Capital HS) led the team throughout the tournament with total of 144 strokes. Miller posted a final round of 74, which proved to be his first round of the year shooting over-par. Sophomore Brian Anania (Hurricane, W.Va./Hurricane HS) finished strong by posting a one-under-par 71 on the final 18 to give him a two day score of 146. Tas Sipowski totaled a second round 75, finishing his tournament at 151. Jeremy Rogers (Buckhannon, W.Va) and Nathan Kerns (Ironton, Ohio/Ironton HS) each posted a 76 on day two to give them a score of 150 and 152, respectively.
MU finished 18 strokes behind the champion University of Alabama-Little Rock, who boasted the tournament’s medalist and second place finisher at 137 and 139 strokes.
The Herd have two weeks to rest and improve their form until Marshall travels to Hebron, Kentucky to take part in the Bearcat Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati at Traditions Golf Course on October 10-11.
