Patriot Intercollegiate Day Two
LORTON, Va. - The Marshall men's golf team came out of the Patriot Intercollegiate triumphant on Sunday. The Thundering Herd is not only bringing home another first place finish, but also an individual champion – freshman Clark Robinson (South Windsor, Conn.).
“I’m really happy to come out of the tournament with a win,” said coach Matt Grobe. “We really struggled out of the gate, but hung tough and came up with the win.”
The Herd shot its highest round of the tournament with a 290, which totaled its three-round score to a nine-over-par 861. Robinson shot a personal-best low with a five-under 66 in the final round to total his score to a three-under 210. His one stroke victory proved to be the edge Marshall needed in competition.
“Clarke's 66 was very impressive and really helped propel us to victory,” Grobe added.
Of the five-member team, two finished in the top ten – including Robinson. Sophomore Logan Lagodich (Canton, Ohio) shot a three-over 74 final round. His combined three-round score put him in a three-way tie for eighth place with a two-over 215.
Senior Jeremy Rogers (Buckhannon, W.Va.), who competed as an individual in the Patriot Intercollegiate, finished in a tie for fourth place with a one-over 72 that gave him an even-par 213 total over the course of two days.
West Virginia native and senior Brian Anania (Hurricane), tallied a 79 in the last round that slid him into a tie for 11th place with a five-over 218 score.
“I’m looking forward to a week of practice and preparation,” Grobe concluded.
Marshall will have less than a week before heading to Hebron, Ky. for the Bearcat Invitational Oct. 7-8. It will be the Herd’s sixth time competing on the Traditions Golf Club Course.
