Marshall has two days and two rounds left to climb the standings at its final fall tournament
Oct. 20, 2013
POWELLS POINT, N.C. - Marshall's sophomore Logan Lagodich (Canton, Ohio) shot a career-tying 69 that was good enough to settle him into first place on Sunday, while the Thundering Herd finished its first round of 18 holes tied for third in the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at Kilmaric Golf Course.
"There were really tough conditions today," coach Matt Grobe said. "The front nine was chilly, and the wind was blowing hard. The team really got off to a rough start, but fought back and salvaged a good round."
The Herd tied for third with host school Old Dominion and Hartford after a 6-over-par 290 Round 1 tally. Elon leads the 18 teams with a 2-over 286, while Radford holds a one-stroke advantage over the Herd with a 5-over 289 for second place.
"Logan [Lagodich] played great all day," Grobe added. "The rest of the guys helped with good scores on the back nine to put us in good position for tomorrow."
Lagodich's consistent shooting put him 2-under and one-stroke ahead of the pack. He was the only squad member to finish in the top 10 with senior Brian Anania (Hurricane, W.Va.) the closest to breaking into the five-way tie for 9th place. Anania's 1-over 72 put him in an eight-way tie for 14th.
Marshall was the only school to have two competitors shoot an eagle - Lagodich and Anania. As of now, Lagodich is tied with the second-most birdies (4) and second-best par 3 shooting (2.80, -1) of the tournament.
The team will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Monday and play its second round of 18 holes.
