HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's golf travels to The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C. to compete in the Irish Creek Collegiate Championship this weekend. The 54-hole, three- round event opens with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The course was rated 30th Best Residential Course in America by Golfweek in 2010 and has played host to the PGA Tour Q-School First Qualifying Stage in the past.
Marshall is coming off a last-place finish in the Furman Intercollegiate on March 24th and is hoping to turn things around in this weekend's tournament hosted by UNC Charlotte.
"We had a really good week of practice after getting back from Furman," head coach Matt Grobe said. "We have already seen the golf course, getting to play it on the way down to the Furman event, so tomorrow's practice will be the second time we have seen it.
"The guys really like the golf course and it's a good layout. There is nothing really tricky about it - what you see is what you get. We are excited to get back on the course and try to erase a little bit of that Furman out of our mind and play some good golf."
Marshall will be traveling five student-athletes to Kannapolic, N.C., including senior Nathan Kerns, juniors Jeremy Rogers and Brian Anania, sophomore Tas Sipowski, and freshman Logan Lagodich.
