Men's Golf Finishes In 15th Place At First Energy Intercollegiate
AKRON, Ohio - The Thundering Herd finished in 15th place at Akron University's First Energy Intercollegiate at the Firestone Country Club's North Course. Marshall finished with a team score of 941.
The University of Toledo captured the tournament title with a team score of 868, five strokes better than second-place Ball State, who finished with a score of 873.
Toledo's Justin Bertsch claimed the individual title in a three-man, four-hole playoff. Bertsch finished the tournament with a six-under par, 210. Bertsch defeated fellow Rocket Tyler Riley and Ball State's Wayne Denger in the playoff.
Sophomore Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) was the Herd's highest finisher for the tournament, finishing in a tie for 12th at 223 (75-70-78). Other finishers for Marshall were Brad Tweel (Huntington, W.Va.) at 235 (79-80-76, T-55), Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.) at 241 (81-79-81, T-65), Brandon Katzeff (Uniontown, Pa.) at 242 (81-80-81, T-67), and Chris Tipper (Parkersburg, W.Va.) at 248 (83-84-81, 73).
The Herd travel to Ohio State for next weekend's Kepler Intercollegiate. The tournament takes place on April 23-24.
