April 20, 2017
IRVING, Texas – Marshall men’s junior golfer Alex Weiss (Pickerington, Ohio) was one of five student-athletes to be named to the Conference USA Men’s Golf All-Academic Team, the league announced Thursday.
“I’m really happy for Alex,” head coach Matt Grobe said. “It’s always good to see a kid that works hard in the classroom and on the course get rewarded. Alex not only performs in those areas, but he has become a leader for us this season. I’m really looking forward to going down to the league tournament with him and to see how he will grow for his senior season. It’s really good to see a kid like that get rewarded.”
Weiss is averaging a 3.65 GPA in business management, while also maintaining the second-best stroke average on the team (73.87) through 30 rounds.
The junior shot a season-low 214 at the Joe Feaganes Invitational (Sept. 12-13) and a season-low 69 in the final round of the Furman Intercollegiate (March 24-26). Besides his top rounds, Weiss has had two finishes in the top-15, four in the top-20 and eight in the top-30. His best finish of the season was 12th at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate (March 10-12).
This accolade is just another honor the Pickerington, Ohio native has earned, which includes being named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll from 2015-16 and earning the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better in 2016.
