IRVING, Texas – For the second consecutive year, Marshall senior Brian Anania (Hurricane, W.Va.) was named to the Conference USA Men’s Golf All-Academic Team, the league announced Thursday.

While maintaining a 3.94 GPA in business management with a marketing minor, Anania boasts the best stroke average on the team (72.58) in 26 rounds of play this season. His average entering the C-USA Championship ranks No. 2 in Herd history in a single season, behind only former teammate Nathan Kerns, who posted a 71.72 last season.

“I am so happy for Brian,” coach Matt Grobe said. “He has been a leader for our team since he arrived on campus. Brian is the complete student-athlete. He excels in the classroom, on the golf course, and as a leader for our team. He has been a pleasure to be around and our program will certainly miss his leadership.”

Anania has four top-10 finishes this season and has placed in the top 20 in eight of nine tournaments. In October, Anania became one of only 18 players in Marshall history to win an individual title when he triumphed at the Cincinnati-hosted Bearcat Invitational in Hebron, Ky. Following his win, Anania earned his first Conference USA Golfer of the Week honor. At the following tournament, the ODU/OBX Invitational (Oct. 21), Anania shot a career-low round of 67.

Anania’s leadership also has contributed to a Herd-record three team titles this season: at the John Piper Intercollegiate (Sept. 17), the Patriot Intercollegiate (Sept. 29) and most recently at the inaugural Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational (April 15).

The accolade will lengthen an already impressive list of accomplishments for Anania, who was recently named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the fourth time and received the C-USA Academic Medal for the third time.
