Former Herd Golfer Wins Third West Virginia Amateur Championship
Sam O’Dell won the West Virginia Amateur for the third time, while Thomas Frazier came in 12th
DANIELS, W.Va. – Former Marshall golfer Sam O’Dell won his third WV Amateur Championship, Thursday, June 15, at the Resort at Glade Springs with an overall score of 3-under-par 283.
The Hurricane, W.Va., native’s past WV Amateur Championships were in 2013 and 2015 and he defeated the runner up and former West Virginia University golfer Chris Williams by two strokes to claim his third championship.
During his time at Marshall, O' Dell was the stroke-average leader three of his four seasons with the Thundering Herd under the 40-year veteran coach, Joe Feaganes. As a freshman in 1997, he made the NCAA All-District Team, and in 2000 won the UK/Johnny Owens Invitational, as well as an Academic All-American accolade.
Current Marshall golfer Thomas Frazier (Huntington, W.Va.) finished at 12th with a score of 7-over 293. The rising junior had his best round of the tournament this afternoon, as he finished with a 2-under 70.
