HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Sam O' Dell ended his Marshall athletic career in 2000 and has taken on dentistry as a profession - but he hasn't lost his golf game. After ending the final day 6-over 76, the Hurricane dentist shot a final score of 279, 5-under for the WV Amateur Championship victory at the Greenbrier Aug. 5-8.

During his time at Marshall, O' Dell was the stroke-average leader three of his four seasons with the Thundering Herd under the 40-year veteran coach, Joe Feaganes. As a freshman in 1997, he made the NCAA All-District Team, and in 2000 won the UK/Johnny Owens Invitational, as well as an Academic All-American accolade.

Besides O'Dell, four other Marshall athletes competed in the four-day tournament that consisted of 43 competitors. Current senior, Brian Anania shot 1-over (285) to tie for second, while teammates Jeremy Rogers (10/295), Will Evans (13/299) and Davey Jude (T15/301), also finished in the top 15.
