HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall’s men’s golf team will look to improve upon its second place finish from the Marshall Invitational from earlier this month as it competes in the Cardinal Intercollegiate starting Monday.
The 54-hole tournament begins with a shotgun start Monday at 8:30 a.m. 36 holes will be played on Monday with the final 18 on Tuesday. The event is being held at the par-72, 7,036-yard Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. Louisville is the tournament host.
This is the first time head coach Matt Grobe and his Thundering Herd team will be back out on the course since its second place finish in the 43rd annual Marshall Invitational two weeks ago. It was the best finish for Marshall in its own tournament since 1983.
Senior Nathan Kerns posted a second place finish individually during the invitational to lead the Herd.
There will 14 teams awaiting the Herd in Kentucky. The 2012 field includes Louisville, UALR, Austin Peay, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Francis Marion, Furman, Georgetown, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, and Western Kentucky.
UALR is the defending champions. The Trojans posted a 3-under par 573 to win last year.
