NEWPORT, R.I. - The Marshall men's golf team travels to play in the Adam's Cup of Newport, an event hosted by the University of Rhode Island, this Monday and Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament begins with 36 holes Monday, and concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
The event will take place at the Newport National Golf Club on a par 72, 7,244 yard layout. Bryant University, East Carolina, Furman, Georgetown, Houston, Iowa State, North Carolina, North Texas, South Florida, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M, South Carolina-Aiken, Texas-San Antonio, Virginia Commonwealth, Rhode Island, and Yale will compete with the Thundering Herd over the next two days.
Making the trip for Marshall is Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine), Jonathan Pepe (McKeesport, Pa.), Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.), Matt Scytkowski (South Hadley, Mass.), and Nathan Kinker (Barboursville, W.Va.).
Marshall finished last year's Adam's Cup in eighth place with a two-round total of 611. The final round of the 2004 tournament was cancelled due to fog. Michigan State claimed the team title with a 572.
Shawn Warren led the way for Marshall individually, carding a 145 (72-73), which tied him for 10th place.
