Weiss Named C-USA Men’s Golfer of the Week
Senior finished in the top five for third consecutive time
IRVING, Texas – Marshall men’s golf senior Alex Weiss was named Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the first weekly honor for Weiss in his collegiate career.
Weiss has started off the 2017-18 season on fire as he has finished in the top five in each of the Herd’s first three tournaments. The senior from Pickerington, Ohio, won the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational (Sept. 12), tied for fourth out of 90 golfers at the Raising Canes Intercollegiate (Sept. 17) and finished fourth out of 87 players at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
In the first round of the Hummingbird, Weiss shot a 5-under 66, tied for the fourth best single-round score in the tournament’s history. He followed up with a 2-under 69 in the second round and a 1-under 70 in the final round. Weiss finished just three shots back off the lead. He recorded 13 total birdies for the tournament and scored an eagle on both the 12th and 14th holes in round two.
His season stroke average is 68.0
Weiss and the Thundering Herd will hit the links again Oct. 9-10, in Bridgeport, W.Va., at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate.
