HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The fall season will come to a close over the next few days for Marshall’s men’s golf team as it competes in the 33rd annual ODU/Outerbanks Invitational in Powells Point, N.C.
The three day event will begin on Sunday and will be played at the par-72, 6535-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club.
Marshall will be a part of an 18-team field which includes fellow Conference USA member Old Dominion as the host along with Hartford, Longwood, George Mason, George Washington, James Madison, Elon, Radford, Drexel, Delaware, Loyola, Georgia Southern, Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth, Hofstra, St. Bonaventure and Drake.
The Thundering Herd has enjoyed a good fall schedule to date. Marshall has captured a top-10 finish in three of its four tournaments which includes a tie for second in the season opening Marshall Invitational and most recently a third place finish at the Bearcat Invitational.
A main component of the Herd’s success this fall has been the play of Nathan Kerns. The senior has a stroke average of 70.33, lowest of the team and has captured three, top three finishes.
Kerns’ play has earned himself a ranking of no. 53 in the GolfStat.com Cup. His stroke average has him tied for no. 20 in GolfStat’s statistical rankings.
The Ironton, Ohio native will be Marshall’s number one seed for the Invitational. He will be joined by Brian Anania, Jeremy Rogers, Josh Holmes, and Logan Lagodich.
18 holes will be played each day. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday on holes no. 1 and no. 10. The teams will participate in a practice round on Saturday.
