Marshall Men’s Golf Announces Signing of Mitchell

Nov. 9, 2017

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men’s golf head coach Matt Grobe announced the signing of Kyle Mitchell on Thursday. Mitchell will join the Herd in the fall for the 2018-19 season.
“We are so excited to have Kyle join our team,” coach Grobe said. “He has had an incredible junior career and is only getting better. Kyle is a young man with high character and has an incredible work ethic. We can’t wait to get him on campus!”
The Powell, Ohio, native has excelled at the high school and junior tour levels. Mitchell has 11 top 10 finishes on the Golfweek Junior Tour.
While in high school at Olentangy Liberty, Mitchell was a four-time OCC All-Conference member, three-time All-Central District and an Academic All-Ohio honoree three times. He was named his high school’s Most Valuable Player three times and qualified for the Ohio State Championship in 2014 and 2015.
"Life has a funny way of working out,” Mitchell said. “Never once did I question God's plan, he is the reason my life is the way it is. I am a firm believer that everything in life happens for a reason. I can't thank Coach Grobe enough for believing in my ability as a person and a golfer and for giving me this great opportunity. I am extremely excited to be a part of the Marshall family!"
Along with his on-course accomplishments, Mitchell was awarded the 2016 Jack and Barbara Nicklaus Youth Spirit Award. The honor is given to a young citizen who in some way has demonstrated a strong, driving spirit in overcoming obstacles, an unwavering optimistic outlook, and a strong conviction for their connection to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
