HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – First-year Marshall men’s golf coach Matt Grobe announced Tuesday the signing of Will Evans to a National Letter of Intent.
Evans is the first signee for coach Grobe. He will begin his time at Marshall for the 2013-14 season.
“It’s exciting because I think Will is a really, really good kid,” coach Grobe said about his signee. “He is good in the classroom and a really good golfer, so I think he will come in and fit really well with our team. We look to him to be able to play immediately, so we are excited about him coming. “
A Charleston native, Evans attends George Washington High School in the capital city where he has earned all-state honors for the past two seasons and won six tournaments individually, including the Top Flite Jr. Tour event.
The son of Barry, an area PGA club pro, and Ann, he has also earned all-conference accolades during all four years of high school, was a top five finisher in the past two junior amateur tournaments, won three Top Flite tournaments in 2011 and previously won the Mid-Atlantic Junior Invitational.
During his past two seasons, Evans has had scoring averages of 37.2 (2011) and 35.6 (2012). He was a runner-up during the 2011 state tournament and finished in a tie for fifth during the 2012 event.
