Marshall 2, Wright State 0

The Marshall men's soccer team opened its 2012 season on Friday night with a 2-0 win over Wright State.

2012 (Senior): Games Played/Started: 17/17... Named Conference USA Co-Player of the Year after a stellar senior season in which he broke the Marshall records for single-season and career shutouts... Started all 17 games of the season, seeing over 1,544 minutes in goal... Made 77 saves (.895 save pct)... Posted nine shutouts and combined with Michael McCabe for a 10th... Allowed only nine goals (0.52 GAA)... His 9.5 clean sheets and 0.52 GAA were the best marks in the league and fifth-best in the nation... Named to the 2012 NCAA Div. I All-Midwest Region first team, landing the lone goalkeeper spot on the 11-man list... Later selected in the second round (66th overall) of the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft by the Columbus Crew, becoming the third Marshall player to be drafted into the league.

2011 (Junior): Games Played/Started: 16/16... Recorded 4 shutouts on the year against Michigan State, Winthrop, Memphis, and Kentucky... Led the conference in saves with 79 and in saves-per-game (4.94)... Provided the game-winning assist to Tom Jackson in the Herd's 3-0 win over Memphis... Named to the All-Conference USA first team for the second year in a row, and was the only goalkeeper elected to the C-USA First Team... Was selected as preseason All-C-USA heading into the season.

2010 (Sophomore): Games Played/Started: 18/18... Played every minute of the season in net for the Herd... Recorded 65 saves and had five shutout wins... Allowed 20 goals in 18 games, good for a 1.04 Goals Against Average... Had a .765 saves percentage... Had one assist on the season against UCF... Conference USA Defender of the Year... First-Team All-Conference USA... Second Team All-Midwest Region

2009 (R-Freshman):Played in 16 games, started 14, and logged 1391 minutes in net... Registered 65 saves with a 1.10 goals against average and a .793 saves percentage... Recorded one goal and one assist on the season... Kept three blank sheets... Had a record of 9-5-2 in net... Was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21... That same week he was named to Soccer America National Team of the Week... Awarded the Conference USA Freshman of the Year... All Conference USA Second-Team selection... Conference USA All-Freshman Team.

2008: Redshirted for the season.

Prior to Marshall: Attended high school at Rochester Adams and played for coach Juan Delgado... Recorded 27 shutouts during a three-year campaign... Was selected all-league two different years... Was also a two-time all-county, all-district, all-region and all-state member in 2006 and 2007... Guided Rochester to a league championship in 2006 and 2007... 2006 district champs... 2007 team MVP and captain.

Personal: Born May 24, 1990...son of Charles and Lisa Withrow... Father is a pharmaceutical salesman; mother is a teacher... One brother Justin and one sister Kristin... Enjoys listening to music, playing video games and hanging out with friends... Plans to pursue a degree in secondary education.
