DAVIDSON, N.C. - Looking for its first win of the year, Marshall (0-1-1) fell to Davidson (1-0-1) by a score of 2-0 following a two-hour delay due to inclement weather Sunday evening on 1992 Team Field at Alumni Stadium.

"We came out flat early on in the game and they scored a couple of quick goals on us," said Marshall head coach Bob Gray. "It all comes down to one fluke goal and one mistake that we made. It was a pretty even match from then on, but we couldn't get a chance to score. It was really a learning experience for us."

The Herd fell quickly after the Wildcats scored twice the first five minutes of the match. Strikes from John Pace and Chris Pettilio put Marshall in a 2-0 hole and secured Davidson's first win of the 2013 season with 85 minutes remaining in the contest.

Marshall recorded more shots (14-12), while allowing more shots on goal (5-3) and shots faced (14-12) to face a deficit that couldn't be surpassed.

"We are young and we acted like we were young tonight," Gray said. "Give Davidson credit because it is tough to win on the road and we made mistakes so they punished us for it tonight. We had a couple of chances, but it was a pretty even match other than the first ten minutes. We just have to improve offensively as we have played over 200 minutes now and haven't scored a goal."

After concluding the 2012 campaign with a 5-3-1 road record, Marshall has compiled a 0-1-1 record through its first two road contests of 2013.

Davidson leads Marshall 14-7-1 in the series history, last meeting Sept. 6, 1998.

Marshall will remain on the road, playing at Wright State (Sept. 6) and Cleveland State (Sept. 8) while looking to collect win No. 1 of the 2013 campaign.
