BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Marshall men’s soccer team (1-2-0) lost on the road to the Bowling Green Falcons (3-0-0) on Friday by a score line of 3-0.
The first half was a back and forth contest until the Falcons finally broke through at the 29-minute mark with a goal scored by Joe Sullivan, his second of the season. The second goal for the Falcons was finished by Robert Miller at the 42-minute mark, his first goal of the season. The final goal was scored by the Falcons’ Chris Brennan in the 74th minute, his second goal of the season.
“Soccer can be a fickle game sometimes,” assistant coach Thomas Olivier said. “We felt that we had control of the game and started off really well. Then they dictated how they wanted to play, and we did not match their physical play style.”
Sophomores Chris Taibi (Wantagh, N.Y,) and Jacob Purpero (Waverly, Oho) lead the Herd in shots, each with three. Senior Daniel Jodah (Mississauga, Ontario) and junior Bryan Lopez-Mendez (Bloomington, Minn) added two apiece. Overall the Herd lead in shots with 16, five shots on goal, and corners with 12.
“We are getting better in key phases of the game though,” coach Olivier said. “So we will take those lessons on the road to EIU on Sunday and look for a weekend split.”
The Thundering Herd continue their 2016 campaign this Sunday at 4 pm in Charleston, Illinois against EIU.
