Herd Men’s Soccer Announces Spring Schedule
Five matches on tap for Marshall with four at Hoops Family Field
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men’s soccer team announced its 2018 spring exhibition schedule Wednesday afternoon. The Thundering Herd will play five matches from the end of March through April with four at home.
“I’m pleased to announce our schedule for this spring,” Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. “We have a small, tight-knit squad for training this semester, with the graduation of so many seniors from last fall. On the positive side, it will guarantee a lot of playing time for our relatively young squad, which can only aid in our development.”
Marshall’s first exhibition match will be against Cincinnati on March 31 at Hoops Family Field. The Herd hits the road on April 7 for its only away match of the spring at Ohio State. Marshall finishes the spring schedule at home with the University of Charleston (April 11), West Virginia (April 14) and West Virginia Tech (April 20).
“We’ve put together a very completive spring schedule, which will see us play at home four times, and away once,” coach Grassie said. “We play at home against two UC’s, Cincinnati and Charleston, and two WVU’s, WVU Tech, and a very exciting instate rivalry match against those lads from Morgantown.
“We will also travel a few hours up US-23 to play Ohio State, which will be a good preview of our regular season match in 2018.”
Marshall’s match against WVU will come on a very busy day as the Herd will also hold a Spring ID camp on April 14 with the game time set in between the camp times at 3 p.m.
“The WVU match should be especially exciting as we are also hosting our Spring ID camp around the 3pm match on April 14th,” coach Grassie stated. “Not only will we be playing a meaningful match against the Mountaineers, we will also have lots of budding young college athletes showing off their skills, so the energy around Hoops Family Field will be fantastic. We hope to see you here to watch our exciting young team."
Marshall finished the season with a record of 8-10-1, and won its first round match over Kentucky in the Conference USA Tournament.
