Thundering Herd Heads to Charleston for Saturday Matches

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Coming off a pair of 1-0 victories last weekend, the Marshall University men’s soccer team looks to make it four straight wins as the Thundering Herd hosts Slippery Rock University and the University of the Cumberlands Saturday in Charleston at Schoenbaum Field.


The Herd received a goal from Matt Butler in MU’s first match last weekend against Longwood University, and Tom Jackson netted the lone goal in the second match against William & Mary.


Slippery Rock University, members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference of NCAA Division II, was 18-4-1 in 2009 and lost in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.


The University of the Cumberlands, representing the Mid-South Conference, is coming off a 15-5-2 season in which they lost in the second round of the NAIA Championship Tournament.




MU is 4-2 in spring play and 4-1 against collegiate competition, with its only defeat coming at the hands of High Point.


Matches on Saturday start at 9 a.m. when Marshall faces Slippery Rock, followed by a match with Cumberlands at noon. Schoenbaum Field is located at Coonskin Park.
